Asian Association of Craniofacial Surgery

The Asian Association of Craniofacial Surgery was founded by a group of like-minded multi-disciplinary specialists involved in the management of craniofacial deformities.

Craniofacial surgery is a surgical subspecialty of Plastic Surgery and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery that deals with congenital and acquired deformities of the head, skull, face, neck, jaws and associated structures.

Asian Association of Craniofacial Surgery traces its beginnings to 2002. It is a not-for-profit professional association. It represents a group of experienced and qualified specialists from the fields of Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry, and allied health disciplines who are committed to providing continuous, comprehensive, quality, interdisciplinary care to infants, children, adolescents and adults afflicted with craniofacial deformities. The Association aims to adopt and promote new and refined craniofacial techniques for bone and soft tissue reconstruction to provide the highest levels of patient care.

2004

2nd Asian Pacific Congress on Craniofacial Distraction Osteogenesis

The 2nd Asian Pacific Congress on Craniofacial Distraction Osteogenesis, the one of its kind symposium on advanced craniofacial treatment for deformities was conducted in the Republic of Maldives on March 5-10, 2004. Prof. US Nayak was the Congress President and Prof. S.M. Balaji was the Congress Secretary.The meet was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the President of Maldives. He released the Congress Transactions book. There was a pre-conference surgical workshop at the IGMH Govt. Hospital, in which international panel of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons & Plastic surgeons performed free surgeries. Experts from across the world assembled for a brain storming academic sessions and hands on courses.

2007

3rd Asia Pacific Congress on Craniofacial Surgery and Distraction Osteogenesis

The 3rd Asia Pacific Congress on Craniofacial Surgery and Distraction Osteogenesis was held in Republic of Maldives on 29 April – 4 May 2007. Prof. US Nayak was the Organizing Chairman and Prof. S. M. Balaji was the Organizing Secretary. The meet was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the President of Maldives. He released the Congress Transactions book. New knowledge, innovative skills and novel techniques in craniofacial surgery were highlighted. Quality and scope of training and practice was increased, based on research. High standards of papers in Distraction Osteogenesis were presented at the scientific deliberations.

2014

4th International Congress on Craniofacial Osteobiology & Distraction

4th International Congress on Craniofacial Osteobiology & Distraction was held in Republic of Maldives on 5-9 May 2014. This was held as a Joint World Congress of the Asia Pacific and Paris Distraction Conferences. Prof. Patrick Diner, Plastic Surgeon, Necker Children Hospital, Paris University, Paris, France, was the Congress President. Prof. SM Balaji was the Organizing Chairman. The meet was inaugurated by Her Excellency Dr. Mariyam Shakeela, Maldives Minister of Health & Gender. Shee released the Congress Transactions book. World leaders in Distraction Osteogenesis, Tissue Engineering and Craniofacial biology participated and presented their breakthrough works. There were Master Courses on Craniofacial Reconstruction by Tissue Engineering, Shark Session on Long Term results and complications in Craniofacial Distraction Osteogenesis and SORG Workshop.
